The 8th Middlesex battalion had arrived in France in 1914 to join 85 Brigade of 28th Division. They had been involved in the heavy fighting during 1915 and at some point, as yet unknown, Henry Harris was wounded. He was being sent back to England aboard the Hospital Ship Anglia when, on 17th November, 1915 she hit a mine laid by the German submarine UC-5 when just off the coast near Folkestone. Within fifteen minutes the ship sank and he was one of the 164 people that lost their lives. |
